Atul Chandra Baruah-Brief Life Sketch
Atul Chandra Baruah (1916- 2001) was an Assamese writer and literary critic. He was born on 29 May 1916 in the village of Maroi in Darang district. His father’s name was Bhogram Baruah and his mother’s name was Pramila Baruah. After completing his primary education at a local school, he graduated from Cotton College and took a postgraduate degree from Calcutta University. Then he began his career as a teacher and later on became an additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup District.
Atul Chandra Baruah made significant contributions to Assamese literature by composing and editing many books. Some of his published books are: Sashityar Ruparekha (1957), Prajapatir Nirbandha (1957), Samalochana Sahitya (1957), Bhumi Aru Jivan (1958), Sahitya Drishti (1960), Sandhiyar Sadhu (1963), Sahitya Jivan (1965), Galpa Bharati (1969), Asomiya Kabyat Premar Bunwati Sunti (1970), Manasa Kavya Aru Ojapali (1978), Asomiya Abdhidhan Aru Bhasha (1977) etc. Atul Chandra Baruah became the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1979.Â
