Nilmoni Phukan-Brief Life Sketch
Nilmoni Phukan (1880-1978) was an Assamese poet, prolific storyteller and orator. He was born in Dibrugarh. His father’s name was Lombodar Phukan. He completed his schooling in Dibrugarh and graduated from Kochbihar College. He edited ‘Alochani’ (magazine) published from Dibrugarh, ‘Sadiniya Batari’ (a weekly magazine) published from Jorhat and ‘Dainik Batari’ (Daily newspaper). Nilmoni Phukan started his career as a teacher at George School, Dibrugarh.
The gravity of language is the specialty of Phukan’s prose. His notable books of poetry are ‘Jyotikana’, ‘Mansi’, ‘Gutimali’, ‘Sandhani’ and ‘Shatdhara’. ‘Sahitya-Kala’ and ‘Chintamani’ — are his prose works. 0 0 0
