Mofizuddin Ahmad Hazarika (1870-1958) was the first Sufi philosophic poet in the Assamese language. He was born in Dibrugarh. In 1896, his first book of poetry, ‘Gyanmalini’, was published. Mofizuddin Hazarika is known, in the Assamese literary world, as ‘Gyanmalinir Kabi’ (‘Poet of Wisdom) after the title of his poetry book. The poems in the book of ‘Gyanmalini’ are mystic and spiritual in theme and spirit. Mafizuddin Ahmad Hazarika was the first poet in the Assamese language to express the Islamic Sufi ideology in poetry. In addition to publishing his ‘Gyanmalini’, he wrote some poems which have been published posthumously under the title ‘Tattva-Parijat’.

Mofizuddin Ahmad Hazarika was the President of the Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1930 during the Golaghat session.
