Laxmidhar Sarma-Brief Life Sketch
Laxmidhar Sarma (1897-1938) was an Assamese patriot, freedom fighter and progressive writer. He was born in Bhir village of Bishwanath Chariali in Sonitpur district. After receiving his primary education in Tezpur, he passed the entrance examination from Cotton Collegiate School, Guwahati, securing the third position in Assam. He received his B.A. from Cotton College and a first-class M.A. in Indian language and literature from Calcutta. He studied law also. He started his career as a lawyer in Guwahati and Tezpur.Â
Laxmidhar Sarma was influenced by the thoughts and philosophy of Karl Marx, Raja Rammohun Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Mahatma Gandhi and others. As a progressive writer, Laxmidhar Sarma wrote essays, short stories, dramas, biographies etc. and enriched the godown of Assamese literature. He has written short stories, essays, plays, biographies, etc. Communal solidarity, national consciousness, humanism, etc. are the main themes of his writings. 0 0 0
