Sarbeshwar Kataki-Brief Life Sketch

Sarbeshwar Kataki (1892-1946) was an Assamese poet, researcher and educator. He was born in Guwahati. His father’s name was Yogeshwar Kataki and his mother’s name was Draupadi. Sarbeshwar Kataki was educated at Cotton Collegiate High School and at Cotton College, Guwahati. After completing his education, he took up the job of a teacher at Cotton Collegiate High School in 1921 and worked there till the end of his life. Sarbeshwar Kataki wrote essays on ‘Abahan’, ‘Chetna’ and ‘Banhi’. His books are: Murli (Poetry-1921), Tattva Aru Tathya (1926), Antiquities of Assam, Ancient Assamese Scripts, Hemchandra Baruaher Jivni, (1923), Satyanath Borar Jivan Charita, (1929) and “Raasa-krira (drama). Sarbeshwar Kataki was, for a long time, the secretary of the Kamarup Research Society.
