Birinchi Kumar Baruah-Brief Life Sketch
Birinchi Kumar Baruah (1910-1974) is a researcher, literary critic, storyteller, novelist and educator. He was born in Nagaon. He held a doctorate from the University of London for his research work entitled ‘A Cultural History of Assam’. He had rich knowledge in the Pali language.
After completing his formal education he took up an administrative job at Guwahati University. Apart from doing administrative work at Guwahati University, he also taught Assamese. He had written a number of valuable books in Assamese and English. Birinchi Kumar Baruah wrote many stories on ‘Abahan’ (magazine) under the pseudonym ‘Bina Baruah’. ‘Aghoni Bai’ and ‘Pot Parivartan’ are his two short story books. Under the pseudonym ‘Bina Baruah’, he wrote a novel titled ‘Jeevanar Batat’. He wrote another novel entitled ‘Seuji Patar Kanpani’ under another pseudonym ‘Rasna Baruah. He even wrote two travelogues entitled ‘Switzerland Brahman’ and ‘Americar Chithi’. Among his research books mention may be made of-‘Asomar Loka Sanskriti, Asomiya Katha Sahitya, Boudha Dharma Aru Sahitya and Asomiya Bhakha Aru Sanskriti’. He authored several books in English that include: ‘Assamese Literature, A History of Assamese Literature, Studies in Ancient Assamese Literature and Sankardev: A Vaisnavite Saint of Assam’. He was awarded the ‘Sahitya Akademi Award’ in 1984 for his book ‘Asomar Lok Sanskriti’. 0 0 0
