Ambai-Brief Life Sketch | C S Lakshmi
Ambai (the pen name of C.S. Lakshmi) is an Indian Tamil feminist writer. She was born in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu in 1944. She spent her childhood in Mumbai and grew up in Bangalore. She was brought up in a family with an artistic background. Both her grandmother and mother were musicians. They fell a good influence on Ambai. She obtained her higher education at Madras Christian College and in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. After completing her institutional education, she worked as a college teacher.
Ambai began her writing career at an early age. She published her first prose work ‘Nandimalai Charalilae’ when she was still a teenager. Her other works include ‘Siragugal Muriyum (Wings Get Broken), The Face Behind the Mask (1984), The Singer and the Song: Conversations with Women Musicians’ (2000) etc, apart from many contributions to literary journals. He wrote on feminist themes with an orthodox view. As a feminist writer, she explored various aspects of women’s experiences in innovative literary styles. 0 0 0
