Yogesh Das-Brief Life Sketch
Yogesh Das (1928-1999) was an Assamese novelist and short story writer. He was born at Hanchara Garden in Dumduma. He received his primary education in a tea garden school. After taking a Postgraduate in Assamese in 1949, he started teaching at Dumduma High School. In 1953, he got an appointment as a Professor of Assamese in B Baruah College, Guwahati and retired as the Head of the department.
In addition to teaching, Yogesh Dase became the Deputy Editor of ‘Natun Asomiya’ (newspaper), Assistant Editor of ‘Dainik Assam’, and Editor-in-Chief of ‘Prahari’ and ‘Adhinayaka’. Yogesh Das presided over the fifty-first session of the Assam Sahitya Sabha.Â
He wrote many novels and short stories. His novel ‘Dawar Aru Nai’ is a famous social novel. ‘Prithivir Asuk’ is one of his most famous collections of short stories. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award for this collection of short stories.
