Manik Lal Bhowmik-Brief Life Sketch

Manik Lal Bhowmik is an Assamese-Bengali poet, novelist, translator, humanitarian, social worker and patron of literature and culture.

Manik Lal Bhowmik was born on January 4, 1959, in Hojai, Nagaon district of Assam. His father’s name was Binod Bihari Bhowmik and his mother’s name was Satyabhama Devi.

Manik Lal Bhowmik was educated in different places of Assam and joined the teaching profession at Pathshala Navkalpa High School in 1981. After this, he joined the State Bank of India in 1985 and was transferred to various places of India. He is now working as a Deputy Manager, State Bank of India, Guwahati, Panbazar Branch. Manik Lal Bhowmik, who has been accustomed to writing since his student days, has published a number of books in Assamese and Bengali, such as: Sanghat (novel), Manavatar Nagna Mishail (Assamese Poetry Book), and Megh O Brishtir Journal (Bengali), ‘Andharat Emuthi Jonak’ (Assamese Poetry Book), ‘Manavata’ (Bangla Ekankika Natak), ‘Anubhavar Nimila Anka’ (Assamese Poetry Book), ‘Luitar Bukut Humuniyahbor’ (Assamese Poetry Book), ‘Pathe Ghate’ (Bengali Poetry Book), Anusandhan (Assamese novel) etc. 

Manik Lal Bhowmik is also an accomplished translator. Some of the books he translated from Assamese to Bengali are: ‘Samashta Darwaja Bandha Hobar Par’, (Poetry Book/ Original: Purandhar Patgiri), ‘Ami Phul Tara-Nadi’ (Poetry, Original: Girija Patgiri).
