Binandachandra Baruah-Brief Life Sketch
Binandachandra Baruah (1901-1994) was an Assamese poet, playwright and children’s writer. He was born in Tiyak. His father’s name was Gopalchandra Baruah. He completed his schooling in Tiyak and Jorhat and graduated from Cotton College, Guwahati with honours in History. Then he went to Calcutta to study M. A. and law. But he returned home without completing his education. After returning home, Binandachandra Baruah started his career as a teacher at Janji High School and retired in 1989 as its headteacher. Binandachandra Baruah was closely associated with the Assam Sahitya Sabha and became the chairman of its North Lakhimpur session.
Binandachandra Baruah wrote many poems, plays, short stories, humours, children’s books etc. His poetry books include: ‘Sankhadhabani’ (1925), ‘Pratidhabani’ (1937),) ‘Jayadhabani’ (1974) and ‘Shishudhwani’ (1977). He wrote two plays as ‘Partha Sarathi’ and ‘Sharaighat’. ‘Ti Ti Hei’ and ‘Bengenar Rahasya’ are his humorous writings. He was skilled handed in writing children literature among which the noteworthy books are- ‘Maharaj Naranarayan, Larar Bezbaruah, Asom Gaurav, Aamar Gaurav, Aamar Laxminath’ and ‘Rajasthanar Galpa’ etc.
