M N Roy | Brief Biography
M N Roy, born as Narendra Nath Bhattacharya in 1887, was a Bengali philosopher, politician, social activist, and author. He was a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement and was instrumental in founding the Communist Party of India.
Roy was born in a Brahmin family in Arbelia, a village in present-day West Bengal. He was educated in Calcutta, where he was exposed to the ideas of radical humanism and socialism. In 1909, he was arrested for his involvement in revolutionary activities and was sentenced to life in prison. He escaped from prison in 1915 and fled to Japan, where he became involved with the anarchist movement.
In 1918, Roy moved to Moscow and was involved in the Comintern (Communist International). He was instrumental in establishing the Communist Party of India and was one of its founding members. In 1927, he was expelled from the Comintern for his criticisms of Soviet policies and returned to India.
In India, M N Roy continued his political activism and was arrested several times for his involvement in revolutionary activities. He was also a prolific writer and author, and his works included “India in Transition,” “Revolution and Counter-Revolution in China,” and “The Historical Role of Islam.” He was also a co-founder of the Radical Democratic Party and was active in promoting secularism and democracy in India.
In 1940, M N Roy was arrested and charged with treason for his involvement in a conspiracy to overthrow the British government. He was acquitted in 1941 but was arrested again in 1942 for his involvement in the Quit India movement. He was imprisoned until 1945, and upon his release, he continued to be active in politics and wrote extensively on the need for social and political reform in India.
M N Roy died in 1954 at the age of 67. He remains an important figure in Indian political and cultural history, and his contributions to the Indian independence movement and the development of communism in India are widely recognized. 0 0 0.
