Antoine de Saint-Exupery was a French writer, poet, and pioneering aviator. He was born on June 29, 1900, in Lyon, France, and died on July 31, 1944, in the Mediterranean Sea while on a reconnaissance mission for the Free French Air Force during World War II.

Saint-Exupery began his career as a commercial pilot, and he quickly became fascinated with the thrill of flight. In the 1920s, he became one of the first people to fly mail routes across the Mediterranean, and he wrote about his experiences in the classic book “Night Flight” (1931). This book brought him fame and critical acclaim and established him as a writer and a pioneering voice in the world of aviation.

In 1939, Saint-Exupéry published “The Little Prince,” a novella that tells the story of a young prince who travels from planet to planet meeting various eccentric characters. The book quickly became a classic and is widely regarded as one of the greatest children’s books of all time. The book is a philosophical reflection on life, love, and the human condition, and it has been translated into more than 250 languages.

During World War II, Saint-Exupéry joined the Free French Air Force and flew reconnaissance missions over the Mediterranean. On July 31, 1944, he disappeared during a mission, and it is believed that his plane was shot down by a German fighter.
