Alexander Pushkin | Brief Biography
Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist who is considered to be the father of modern Russian literature. He was born into a noble family in Moscow and was educated in both Russia and abroad, where he was exposed to classical literature and the works of European Romantic writers.
Pushkin’s early poetry was influenced by Romanticism and by the works of Lord Byron and other Western writers. He published his first collection of poetry at the age of 19 and quickly gained popularity among the literary circles in St. Petersburg. Despite his success, Pushkin faced censorship and political opposition due to his criticism of the Russian government and his support of political reform.
In addition to his poetry, Pushkin wrote several plays and the novel “Eugene Onegin,” which is considered one of the masterpieces of Russian literature. He is known for his use of the Russian language and his ability to express complex emotions and ideas in a clear and concise manner.
Alexander Pushkin was a daring and charismatic figure who was involved in several duels and had a tumultuous love life. He married Natalia Goncharova in 1831, but the marriage was unhappy, and he had several affairs.
Pushkin’s life was cut short when he was killed in a duel at the age of 37. His death was a major event in Russia and had a profound impact on the country’s literary and cultural history. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets in Russian literature and is celebrated for his contributions to the development of the Russian language and literary style.
