Muhammad Zafar Iqbal | Brief Biography
Muhammad Zafar Iqbal is a Bangladeshi author, scholar, and educationist who is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in Bengali science fiction and children’s literature. He was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Iqbal received his early education in Sylhet and went on to study electrical engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Dhaka, where he graduated with honors in 1974. After completing his studies, he joined BUET as a teacher and has since then been associated with the institution, serving as a professor of computer science and engineering.
As a writer, Iqbal made his debut in 1976 with the publication of his first short story, “Amra Ocrabashya” (We, the Inferiors). Since then, he has published numerous books, including science fiction novels, children’s books, and popular science books. His works are known for their imaginative and thought-provoking themes, as well as their focus on science, technology, and education. Some of his most famous works include “Dwitiyo Atomsk” (Second Atomsk), “Pseudonameagona” (Pseudonameagon), and “Shokal Shondhya” (Morning of Saturday).
In addition to his literary pursuits, Muhammad Zafar Iqbal is also known for his contributions to the field of education and science popularization. He has been an active proponent of science and technology education in Bangladesh and has been involved in various initiatives to promote science literacy among the general population.
Iqbal has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to Bengali literature and education. In 1983, he was awarded the prestigious Ananda Purashkar for his children’s book “Shanto Dotta”. He has also received the Ekushey Padak, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh, for his contributions to Bengali literature. 0 0 0.
