Laxminandan Bora (1931-) is a newspaper editor, educator, storyteller and novelist. He was born in Hatichong, Nagaon district. He graduated from Cotton College after passing the entrance examination from Nagaon Government High School and obtained his doctorate from Andhra University in 1968. After teaching in several colleges, he retired from Assam Agricultural University as a Professor of Physics.
Laxminandan Bora, who was established in the Assamese literary world during the ‘Ramadhenu’ era, published several storybooks and novels. His storybooks are: Dristirupa, Sei Sure Utala, Aei Rup Aei Chanda, Arabarir Lecheri etc. His published novels are—Ganga Chilanir Pakhi, Nishar Purvi, Yakeri Nahike Upam, Sehi Gunanidhi and Patal Vhairavi.
Laxminandan Bora won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1967 for his novel ‘Patal Bhairavi’. He was recently awarded the ‘Saraswati Award’ of Birla Foundation for his later novel ‘Kayakalpa’. Dr. Laxminandan Bora was elected the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1996. He also edits several papers as a journalist and serves as the Chairman of the State Pollution Control Board. 0 0 0
