Alauddin Khilji | Brief Biography

Alauddin Khilji was a powerful Sultan of the Delhi Sultanate who ruled from 1296 to 1316 CE. He is known for his military conquests, administrative reforms, and ruthless tactics.

Born as Juna Muhammad Khilji in 1250 CE, Alauddin rose to power as a commander in the army of Sultan Jalaluddin Khilji. He eventually overthrew his own uncle and father-in-law, Jalaluddin, in a coup and ascended to the throne in 1296 CE.

Alauddin’s reign was characterized by his military campaigns, which included successful expeditions into southern India, Gujarat, and the Deccan Plateau. He also built a powerful navy to protect the coasts of his empire.

Alauddin Khilji implemented a number of administrative reforms during his reign, including the establishment of a new revenue system and the introduction of market controls to prevent hoarding and inflation. He also reformed the army, instituting a new system of recruitment and promotion based on merit rather than birth or wealth.

However, Alauddin Khilji was also known for his brutal and ruthless tactics. He was said to have ordered the massacre of thousands of prisoners after a siege, and he is also said to have had his own brother-in-law, Malik Kafur, assassinated after suspecting him of plotting against him. 0 0 0.
