Lester B Pearson | Brief Biography
Lester B Pearson (1897-1972) was the 14th Prime Minister of Canada, serving from April 22, 1963, to April 20, 1968. He was born in Newtonbrook, Ontario, Canada, and educated at the University of Toronto and Oxford University. Pearson served in World War I as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later in World War II as a diplomat in the Canadian Department of External Affairs.
Lester B Pearson entered politics in 1948 when he was elected as a member of Parliament for the Liberal Party of Canada. He served in several cabinet positions, including Minister of Labor and Minister of External Affairs. During his time as Minister of External Affairs, Pearson played a key role in the creation of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for his efforts.
As Prime Minister, Lester B Pearson implemented several major reforms in Canada, including the creation of a national public health care system and the adoption of a new flag for the country. He also improved Canadian-American relations and played a crucial role in the negotiation of the Canadian-American Auto Pact.
Lester B Pearson‘s legacy is one of a leader who promoted peace and international cooperation, and who worked to improve the lives of Canadians through domestic reforms.
