Yann Martel | Brief Biography

Yann Martel is a Canadian author best known for his 2002 novel “Life of Pi”. He was born on June 25, 1963, in Salamanca, Spain, and raised in Quebec, Canada. Martel studied philosophy at Trent University and obtained a degree in comparative literature from Concordia University.

Martel’s writing career began in the 1990s when he published several works of fiction, including “Self” (1996) and “The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios” (1993). He achieved international recognition with “Life of Pi”, which tells the story of a young Indian man named Pi who is stranded in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger. The book was widely acclaimed for its imaginative storytelling and philosophical themes, and it won the 2002 Man Booker Prize.

In addition to “Life of Pi”, Yann Martel has written several other works of fiction, including “Beatrice and Virgil” (2010), “We Ate the Children Last” (2011), and “The High Mountains of Portugal” (2016).
