Miriam Toews | Brief Biography

Miriam Toews is a Canadian novelist and writer. She was born on June 11, 1964, in a Mennonite community in Manitoba, Canada. Toews grew up in a Mennonite community and attended a Mennonite school. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba and later went on to work as a freelance journalist and writer.

Toews’s first novel, “Summer of My Amazing Luck,” was published in 1996 and was followed by several other successful works, including “A Boy of Good Breeding” (1998), “The Flying Troutmans” (2008), “Irma Voth” (2011), and “Women Talking” (2018). Her novels often explore themes of family, identity, and community, and often draw on her own experiences growing up in a Mennonite community.

Miriam Toews has received numerous accolades for her work, including the Governor General’s Literary Award for English-language fiction and the Canadian Booksellers Association Libris Award for Fiction Book of the Year. She has also been a finalist for several other literary awards, including the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize.
