Kaliram Medhi-Brief Life Sketch
Kaliram Medhi (1878-1954) was an Assamese educator, linguist, magazine editor and researcher. He was born in a village called Ramdia near Hazo. He graduated from City College, Calcutta with a Master’s Degree in Physics and started his career as a Deputy Collector. For his efficiency and dedication to duty, he was promoted to E. L. C. Although he kept busy with his job, he devoted his free time to literary pursuits. Though he was a student of physics, he worked for the benefit of the Assamese language. He authored ‘Asomiya Bhashar Byakaran Aru Bhakhatattba’, which is a unique book on the Assamese language. He edited some books among which mention may be made of: ‘Ankawali, Prahlad Charita and Mahapurusa Sankardevar Bani’. He had also written some articles in English. Kaliram Medhi presided over the Barpeta session of the Assam Sahitya Sabha in 1919.
