Ian McEwan is a British novelist, screenwriter, and short-story writer. He was born on June 21, 1948, in Aldershot, England. He grew up in East Asia and Europe and was educated at the University of Sussex, where he received a degree in English Literature.

McEwan’s first published work, a collection of short stories, was released in 1975. He gained widespread recognition with the publication of his novel “The Cement Garden” in 1978. This was followed by a number of critically acclaimed novels, including “The Comfort of Strangers” (1981), “The Child in Time” (1987), “Black Dogs” (1992), “Enduring Love” (1997), and “Atonement” (2001). “Atonement” was particularly successful, winning several awards and being adapted into a successful film in 2007.

Throughout his career, Ian McEwan has explored a variety of themes in his writing, including the nature of time, the effects of technology on society, and the workings of the human mind.
