Historical Novel
The historical novel is that type of novel that narrates a story taken from the history of bygone days combining facts with fiction, and history with imagination. Generally, it fuses two contradictory elements as—the actual and the imaginary, the tangible and the intangible. The material of a historical novel is taken from historical documents but these materials are transformed in the crucible of the fertile imagination of the novelist’s mind. But if a novelist of a historical novel gives more emphasis on imagination then the truth would be deformed and as a novelist, he must fail. Sir Walter Scott is the first and foremost and even perfect English historical novelist. His Ivanhoe, Quentin Durward, Kenilworth etc. are good specimens of historical novels in the English Language. Following him and inspired by him Thackeray, Ainsworth, Reade, Kingsley and many other produced this type of novel with success. 0 0 0.
