Shakespeare As You Like It A Review

Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’-A Review

“As You Like It” is one of the most beloved comedies of William Shakespeare, which tells the story of Rosalind, the daughter of an exiled duke who falls in love with Orlando, the son of one of her father’s enemies. The play explores themes of love, identity, gender, and the beauty of nature, and is considered a masterpiece of Elizabethan literature.

The play “As You Like It” is set in two contrasting worlds: the court of Duke Frederick, who has banished his brother Duke Senior, and the Forest of Arden, where Duke Senior and his followers live. The characters in the play move between these two worlds, and the contrasts between them highlight the central themes of the play.

The main character of the play is Rosalind, who is one of Shakespeare’s most famous heroines. She is intelligent, witty, and resourceful, and she disguises herself as a man named Ganymede to escape the court and to be with Orlando. As Ganymede, she counsels Orlando on how to woo Rosalind, and in the process, she falls in love with him. The scenes between Rosalind and Orlando are some of the most memorable in the play, as their banter and wordplay are both humorous and touching.

Another memorable character in the play is Touchstone, a court jester who accompanies Rosalind and her cousin Celia to the Forest of Arden. Touchstone is a comic foil to the more serious characters in the play, and his wit and humor provide a welcome contrast to the more serious themes of the play. 0 0 0.
