Charles Joseph Clark, also known as Joe Clark, was a Canadian politician and statesman who served as the 16th Prime Minister of Canada from 1979 to 1980. He was born on June 5, 1939, in High River, Alberta, Canada.
Clark was educated at the University of Alberta and Oxford University. He began his political career in the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, where he was first elected to Parliament in 1972. He went on to hold several senior positions in the cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, including Minister of External Affairs and Secretary of State for External Affairs.
In 1976, Charles Joseph Clark was elected leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, and in the 1979 federal election, he led the party to victory and became Prime Minister.
