Charles Joseph Clark, also known as Joe Clark, was a Canadian politician and statesman who served as the 16th Prime Minister of Canada from 1979 to 1980. He was born on June 5, 1939, in High River, Alberta, Canada.

Clark was educated at the University of Alberta and Oxford University. He began his political career in the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, where he was first elected to Parliament in 1972. He went on to hold several senior positions in the cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, including Minister of External Affairs and Secretary of State for External Affairs.

In 1976, Charles Joseph Clark was elected leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, and in the 1979 federal election, he led the party to victory and became Prime Minister. During his time in office, Clark focused on national unity and reconciliation with Quebec, and he also worked to strengthen Canada’s position in the world, including establishing a new foreign policy framework and signing a new Constitution.

However, Charles Joseph Clark’s term as Prime Minister was short-lived, as his minority government was defeated in the House of Commons in 1980. He then led the Progressive Conservative Party in the 1980 federal election but was defeated by the Liberal Party led by Pierre Trudeau.
