Lewis Carroll was the pseudonym of Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, an English writer, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon, and photographer. He was born on January 27, 1832, in the town of Daresbury in Cheshire, England. Carroll is best known for his two classic novels “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass,” which have been beloved by generations of children and adults alike.

Carroll was the eldest son of a large and talented family, and he showed an early interest in mathematics and language. He was educated at Rugby School and then at Christ Church College, Oxford, where he studied mathematics and later became a mathematics tutor. While at Oxford, Carroll formed close friendships with several of the college’s faculty members, including John Ruskin and the philosopher and logician Augustus De Morgan.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Carroll was an accomplished writer and photographer. They are known for their rich, witty wordplay and their unconventional narrative style, and they have been widely translated and adapted for the stage and screen.
