Francis Scott Fitzgerald | Brief Biography
Francis Scott Fitzgerald was an American writer born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century and is best known for his novels “The Great Gatsby” and “Tender is the Night”.
Fitzgerald was raised in a Catholic family and was educated at Princeton University, but he dropped out before graduating to join the army. After serving in World War I, he worked as a journalist and began writing his first novel, “This Side of Paradise”. The book was published in 1920 and was an instant success, bringing Fitzgerald fame and fortune.
Fitzgerald’s personal life was tumultuous, and he struggled with alcoholism for much of his life. Despite this, he continued to write and produced several other works, including “The Beautiful and Damned” (1922), “The Great Gatsby” (1925), and “Tender is the Night” (1934). “The Great Gatsby” is now considered a classic of American literature and is one of the most widely read and studied works of the 20th century.
Fitzgerald lived in Europe for several years with his wife, Zelda Sayre, who was also a writer. Their marriage was marked by infidelity, financial difficulties, and Zelda’s declining mental health. The couple lived in Paris and on the French Riviera and became part of the “lost generation” of writers, artists, and intellectuals who lived in Europe in the aftermath of World War I.
Despite his success as a writer, Fitzgerald struggled with financial difficulties for much of his life and died at the age of 44 in 1940, just before the publication of his final novel, “The Last Tycoon”. Today, he is remembered as one of the most important and influential writers of the 20th century, and his works continue to be widely read and studied. 0 0 0.
