Habil Uddin-Brief Life Sketch
Habil Uddin is an illiterate poet of Assam. He was born in 1970 in the village of Gunialguri in the greater Kalgachiya region of the Barpeta District. His father’s name was Habibur Rahman and his mother’s name was Aklima Khatun. Deprived of schooling due to financial hardship, Habil Uddin enjoys composing poetry orally from an early age. He writes poetry in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi.
In 1996, he married Mofida Khatun and becomes the father of a daughter and a son. He runs a small business and with it, he has been living by hand and mouth.
He has already published five volumes of poems, namely, ‘Kar Paase Darai’ (Bengali), ‘Samadhan Kot’ (Assamese), ‘Shraddhanjali’ (Assamese), ‘Jeevan Ekta Kathgara’ (Bengali) and ‘Hatiyar Nehi Kalam Uthao’( Hindi).
Spontaneous patriotism and philanthropy, protest against social stigma, the hypocrisy of political leaders, degradation of humanity, etc. are the main themes of his poetry.
The illiterate poet Habil Uddin is not aware of rhyme, and prosody although some of his poems echo the melody of a lyric. There are inconsistencies in language and spelling, although the fault is forgivable for his illiteracy.
It is a rare example that the illiterate Habil Uddin has fulfilled his responsibility towards the Assamese language and nation by composing poems orally. 0 0 0
